I had such a wonderful experience at this restaurant! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and inviting. The food was absolutely delicious — full of flavor, fresh, and beautifully presented.
A special shoutout to our server, Panchito! He was incredibly friendly, attentive, and made us feel so welcome. He gave great recommendations from the menu and made sure everything was perfect throughout our meal. His positive energy really added to the whole experience.
I highly recommend this place if you’re looking for great food, amazing service, and a relaxing vibe. We’ll definitely be coming back — and we’ll be asking for Panchito again!

This review will probably make no justice to El Hidalguense. If you like barbacoa/chivito this is the place. Authentic Hidalgo Mexico style barbacoa in Houston. The barbacoa/chivito was amazing so was the consome (broth). Let’s not forget handmade tortillas. The fajitas were amazing. More

I saw Chris Shepherd review this restaurant on his new show, Eat Like a Local, and I knew this was the place for me! I grabbed my Mom, and off we went on a late Saturday afternoon. Mom ordered the whole fried fish with a fresh cantaloupe juice. I ordered a michelada, the barbacoa, for 1 with handmade tortillas. Flautas arrived while we enjoyed the live music. Delicious and crispy with the best accompanying chili sauce. Our food arrived promptly, and I have never seen Mom more pleased. Her fish was crispy on the outside but tender and juicy inside. The barbacoa comes with cactus salad, which is delicious. I was able to eat about 4 tacos before giving up, but I will be back because that lamb was everything I dreamed it would be. As we dined, Mom noticed another table enjoying the cabrito. She wanted to order to go. Lol, I suggested we just come back with more family. And we will! See you soon, El Hidalghense!

Where do I start. Why would you allow people to make reservations for Mother’s Day and when you show up you say never mind.. it’s a 2-3 hours wait. Mind you we called and made the reservation 2 days before. Insane. We asked why would you allow us to make a reservation days before if we would have to wait hours. Person “no se señora” Now we have no other place to go because every single place takes reservations and has hours of wait. Thanks to whoever did this! First time here (mom wanted to eat here) and it will be our only time.

Don't search more. This is the place. Food is spectacular - authentic and made with attention to detail. Not your dried out chicken fajita tex mex spot. The handmade tortillas are worth the extra. Portions are equal to the cost. And the service is amazing. Ingrid and Jesus were very attentive with great recommendations. Highly recommend.
